Hi! Welcome 😊
Here is a quick glimpse of what to expect from this article:
Five essential steps to change one or more areas of your life.
Personal stories that provide you with more context and examples of how to implement some of the steps.
And a PDF activity to help you deep dive into self-reflection and decision-making.
Who is this article for?
This article is for you if...
You are frustrated with one or more areas of your life.
You sincerely believe that you have more to offer in life. Instead, you feel stuck working a job, studying a particular field, or living a life that you ultimately feel is suffocating your instinctive deep calling and GOD-given gifts.
You want to level up one or more areas of your life but need a little or a lot of support.
Do any of those sound like you?
If yes, this article and the activity included will provide fantastic value. I can teach you how to change your life in 2024 without the B.S.!
If not, will you share the link with others who might need it? I encourage you to browse and explore my other content on my blog and my YouTube channel - I like to think there's something for everyone!
But if this is for you, let's dive in!
I can't count how many times I deceived myself by saying, "This is the year I’ll accomplish these goals," and then having those goals roll into the following year with little to no results.
(If you can relate, make sure you add reading my recent blog post Stop Feeling Stuck in 2024 and Start Building a Life You're Proud Of to your reading list, too.)
Let's dive into the five essential steps to change your life in 2024:
1. Make a decision
You are actively looking for ways to change your life because you are unhappy and dissatisfied with your current situation.
Recognizing your dissatisfactions is actually a fantastic first step because you have recognized the problem(s) and can now work toward identifying solutions.
Let's Pretend...
It's a sunny, beautiful spring Sunday afternoon, and you've just walked into this beautiful restaurant called LIFE.
Your server hands you two menus to choose from.
The menu you choose represents your decision about what to do about your current life's dissatisfaction.
Menu 1: Do Nothing!
If you choose to do nothing, things will remain the same as they've been.
"If nothing changes, nothing changes," as the quote goes.
Disclaimer: Many people have been credited for coining this quote; do you know who coined it?! Comment below and let me know.
Menu 2: Do Something!
This choice is where things can get so good. You choose to take actions that will lead to changes.
"Words may inspire, but only action creates change." -Simon Sinek
HINT: This is the menu option you should choose 😉. CONGRATULATIONS! I am proud of you for deciding to take action, which brings us to No. 2 on the list of things to do to change your life in 2024.
2. Take a complete inventory
You have decided to do something about a life you want to improve, and now it's time to take inventory.
If this sounds overwhelming already, just take a deep breath and stick with me throughout this article. I promise I've got you each step of the way!
Take inventory of these seven core categories of your life: Fitness & Wellness, Health, Spirituality, Finances, Relationships, Career, and Education.
Attached is a PDF that will guide you to a deeper level of the materials in this article.
Please access the PDF by clicking here or using the download button below: Your Activity Guide to Help Change Your Life
Use this activity as a guide while we go through this process together and implement the strategies we're discussing.
3. Fully Commit to Your Decision
The PDF activity will help you decide what areas of your life you want to focus on improving and how to begin the process.
The mission of this activity and this article is to give you clarity of vision for your life so you can decide the life you holistically want and willing to work towards to.
Committing to the ultimate decision is essential for two reasons: life will throw curve balls at you to get you off track. With commitment, you will always come back to your decisions. Secondly, the most important decision is the one you're working towards, not how to get there.
So, be open-minded, flexible, and willing to pivot; this will help you try different methods of getting things done as you discover better ways to do so.
Without being flexible and pivoting, you will become more focused on the how and not the what, which will lead you to unnecessary frustrations.
4. Get Educated
A mistake we often need to correct is that getting a degree or another degree is the superior way to becoming educated.
I spent over $7k on a law school prep course in 2023 hugely because I also thought this way.
I wanted to attend law school because I believed that legal knowledge was the best way to advocate for the people and causes that I feel called to serve.
Meanwhile, I had written an entire book that speaks to the issues and the people that I need to advocate for, sitting on my flash drive. All the book needed was to be professionally edited and published.
I soon realized that instead of spending the next 3-5 years in law school while working to afford a living and accumulating debt, I may have been in a season where I needed to get crystal clear on my life's purpose and develop my vision accordingly that led to my purpose.
So, I shifted my focus to the book and, soon after, started a business as a speaker and a writer.
However, I needed to learn how to proceed with the book after the draft and start a business from scratch; this brings us to how to get educated: YouTube and Google search.
I began researching on those two platforms that season, leading me from one YouTube video and Google search to another resource.
One search led me to interviews on YouTube, which led me to a podcast and then from one podcast to another.
Soon, I learned so many valuable lessons for free and from experts.
Through these searches from my phone and laptop, I discovered coaches and some of the greatest in their fields.
I invested in myself by learning directly from Best-Selling authors, professional public speakers, and professionals who have built multi-million dollar businesses as writers and speakers.
In addition to how little I had to pay for a few courses/classes, I have access to those courses for as long as I live.
My writing course for example includes a complete step-by-step guide to writing and publishing books, which will be needed for other books I write in the future. This makes me so excited to start writing my second book soon because I know the process will go so much smoothly.
Isn't this such a worthy investment?
You can also further your education by doing something similar as I did: YouTube and Google Search, books, podcasts, and investing in some low cost courses instead of spending a lot of your hard earned money and so much time to get another degree.
5. Develop a strategy for execution
The steps above, including the PDF activity, only matter with an execution plan (note the 20 Ideas Method in the PDF!).
The best way to create an execution plan is to start with the overall vision and purpose of your life and work backwards.
For example, in the Fall of 2023, I started with where I am working towards being in five years. Then, I created target results for year five to year one, which I then further simplified.
This can still work for you even if you don't have a full five year plan. Start with what you have.
